What the Lilian Voudouri scholarship gives you

You will receive 10,000 EUR for a one-year Master’s programme abroad, paid out in three instalments. The scholarship covers an independent pre-doctoral qualification, i.e. a Master’s, DEA or MPhil, in disciplines ranging from the humanities and social sciences to mathematics, natural sciences, medicine, biology, engineering, fine arts and music. The funding is provided by the Lilian Voudouri Foundation in Athens, which has awarded more than 800 scholarships over the last three decades. For the years 2026 to 2027, up to 20 scholarships will be awarded, all for study outside Greece. If your course lasts two years, you must reapply for the second year.

Who can apply

• Greek origin: You are of Greek descent.
• Age: You were born on or after 1 January 2000.
• Degree: You hold a bachelor’s degree from a Greek higher education institution (AEI) with a mark of at least 8.50 on the Greek 10-point scale. For music, theatre and dance, a diploma with the grade ‘Arista’ (with distinction) from a state university of performing arts is required instead.
• Where you study: You are undertaking a full-time, on-campus Master’s degree programme abroad. Part-time and distance-learning programmes are not eligible for funding.
• Language: You have a high level of proficiency in the language of the degree programme and hold an official certificate to prove it.
• Financial need: Neither you nor your parents can afford your degree.
• No double funding: You will not receive another scholarship for the same degree programme.

How to apply

Please submit your application by post or in person at the Foundation’s office in Athens by 30 April 2026. Please complete the application form by hand and adhere to the specified word limit. If you are shortlisted, the Foundation may invite you to an interview. The results will be announced on 31 July 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

The eligibility criteria for this scholarship are quite narrow: you must be of Greek descent, hold a Greek bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade of 8.50, demonstrate financial need, and be studying abroad. This means that the pool of eligible candidates remains small. With up to 20 scholarships awarded each year, the chances are good for a well-suited applicant. Where academic performance is equal, the applicant with the lower income will be awarded the scholarship; therefore, clearly documented financial need is an advantage.
