About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive a scholarship of 25% to 50% of your tuition fees, up to a maximum of 8,000 EUR, for one academic year of a Master’s programme at the Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics (CLSBE) in Lisbon. Payment will be made in two instalments: the first as soon as your scholarship has been approved, and the second following a mid-year review of your marks. The scholarship is awarded by the Fundação Amélia de Mello (FAM), a Portuguese foundation that supports students who are unable to cover their study costs from their own resources.

Who can apply

  • Degree: You have been admitted to a ‘Pre-Experience’ Master’s programme in Economics, Management or Finance at CLSBE, which begins in September. ‘Pre-Experience’ means that you can undertake this Master’s programme without any prior professional experience.
  • Nationality: You are a Portuguese national.
  • Financial need: Your family’s income is not sufficient to cover your study costs, and you can provide evidence of this.
  • Family ties (bonus, not required): Preference is given to children or grandchildren of current employees of the groups founded by Jorge and José Manuel de Mello; however, this is not a prerequisite for applying.
  • Commitment to repay: You make a moral commitment to make a donation to the foundation at a later date, so that it can continue to help other students. This is not a legal obligation.

How to apply

Once you have been admitted to an eligible CLSBE Master’s programme, you should submit a written application to the CLSBE Scholarship Committee. Please enclose your letter of admission, your CV, proof of financial need and the signed repayment agreement. The committee decides each year who will receive a scholarship, taking into account academic potential, financial need and the factors mentioned above. In some years, no scholarships may be awarded at all.
