Benefit

At the Catholic University of Portugal (Universidade Católica Portuguesa, UCP), you will receive a reduction of your tuition fee if your family is unable to cover the full cost of your studies. The exact amount depends on your family’s financial situation. This support takes the form of an interest-free advance: once you have completed your studies, you will repay the full amount to the university without interest. This merely reduces your tuition fees, so you will still need to cover other costs, such as enrolment fees and fees for degree certificates, yourself. The programme is administered by the university’s Office for Social Responsibility (Gabinete de Responsabilidade Social).

Eligibility

• Degree level: You are enrolled on a Bachelor’s degree programme (1 cycle) or an integrated Master’s degree programme at UCP.
• No earlier degree: You do not yet hold a bachelor’s degree or a higher qualification.
• Financial need: It has been established that your family is on a low income and is unable to cover the full cost of your studies.
• Grades: You are maintaining an average of at least around 60%.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• State scholarship: This grant cannot be combined with a scholarship from the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES). If you are also eligible for the DGES scholarship, you must apply for it separately.

How to apply

You should apply online after reading the official guidelines on the university’s website. There are two application deadlines. If you studied at UCP last year, you should apply from 1 to 30 June. If you are studying at UCP for the first time, you should apply from 1 to 30 September.
