IPT Merit Awards

As a reward for your outstanding grades, you will receive a one-off payment of 3,800 EUR for one academic year. The award is presented by the Social Services Department of the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar (IPT) in Portugal. The amount will be paid directly to you by the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES). Your family’s financial situation is not a factor in this.

Who can apply

• University: You are studying for a degree at the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar.
• Grades: You have achieved the best results in your degree programme for the academic year, as set out in the national regulations governing merit-based scholarships and the IPT’s own regulations.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• Financial need: Not required. Allocations are made solely on the basis of merit, regardless of your income.

How to apply

There is no open application process. The Social Services Office conducts the process each year and selects eligible students on the basis of their academic performance. Preliminary results are published first. You then have 10 working days to lodge a written appeal before the final list is confirmed.

How realistic are your chances?

In the academic year 2023/24, 6 merit-based scholarships were awarded across the institute. The DGES determines the number each year, so this may vary.
