Erasmus+ mobility grant at the Universidade Politécnica de Castelo Branco

You will receive a monthly grant to enable you to complete part of your studies abroad. You can receive funding for up to a total of 12 months per cycle of study (Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD). For a study period abroad, the amount of the grant depends on the cost of living in your destination country: 500 EUR per month for more expensive countries such as Germany, France, Italy or the Nordic countries; 450 EUR for countries with a medium cost of living such as Spain or Greece; and 400 EUR for countries with a lower cost of living such as Poland or Romania. For an internship abroad, the rates rise to 650, 600 and 550 euros per month. In addition to the grant, you’ll receive free online language courses. There is also a travel bonus: if you choose a climate-friendly mode of transport (bus, train, bicycle or car-sharing), you will receive a one-off payment of 50 EUR as well as up to 4 additional travel days. The funding comes from the EU’s Erasmus+ programme and is provided via the UPCB (formerly the Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco).

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled at the Universidade Politécnica de Castelo Branco in Portugal.
• Level: You are a Bachelor’s (Licenciatura), Master’s or PhD student. Students on short-cycle degree programmes (CTeSP) may only apply for a work placement.
• Field of study: Any subject.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. If you are not a Portuguese national or an EU citizen, you should start the process of applying for a visa for your destination country well in advance.
• Duration limit: The total duration of your stays abroad during each stage of your studies must not exceed 12 months, regardless of how many trips or work placements you undertake.
• Extra money: If you receive state benefit from Portugal (DGES), you will also receive 250 euros per month. Further support is available if you have a disability or health impairment, come from a low-income or disadvantaged background, or live in a remote region.

How to apply

You apply through the UPCB's MobilidadeNet platform. The current deadline is 18 October, for stays in the second semester of the 2026/2027 academic year. Before you leave, you agree a learning agreement with your school's international mobility officer. This document (a learning agreement) lists which courses abroad count towards your degree.
