About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive 700 EUR per month to study for one semester (approximately 5 months) at a partner university in the Western Balkans. You will also receive a one-off travel allowance of 360 EUR. If you use low-emission modes of transport, such as buses, trains, car-sharing or ferries, for at least half of your outward and return journey, you will receive an additional 50 EUR. Normally, the total grant amounts to approximately 3,860 to 3,910 EUR. If you are already receiving social assistance from the DGES (Bolsa de Ação Social, the Portuguese state study grant), you will receive an additional grant via UBI’s social services. This scholarship is part of the Erasmus+ ‘International Credit Mobility’ programme, run by the University of Beira Interior (UBI) in Covilhã, Portugal. Under this programme, UBI students are sent to partner universities in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Kosovo.

Who can apply

  • University: You are enrolled at the University of Beira Interior (UBI).
  • Field and level: You are in at least the 2nd year of a Bachelor's in Political Science and International Relations, or in a Master's in International Relations or Political Science.
  • Credits: At the time of your application, you must have earned at least 60 ECTS credits.
  • Erasmus+ time left: You have not yet reached the limit of 12 months for Erasmus+ in your current cycle of study. All previous Erasmus+ placements and work placements count towards this limit.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are enrolled at UBI.

How to apply

The application process consists of two stages. Firstly, you must submit a preliminary application to the UBI via the ‘Balão Virtual dos Serviços Académicos’ (the virtual counter for academic services) by 28 November. UBI will then draw up a ranking list of applicants using a formula based on your grade point average, the credits you have earned and whether you receive social assistance. Once UBI has nominated you, you apply directly to the host university.

How realistic are your chances?

Under the current project, 15 grants were available in total, with 12 offered in the second application phase.
