About this scholarship

Benefit

You will receive a sum of one-off payment for one academic year, which is intended to cover your enrolment and tuition fees. This is a nationwide Portuguese merit-based scholarship awarded by the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES) and administered by each university individually. You are receiving this funding solely on the basis of your outstanding academic achievement, so your income or that of your parents is irrelevant. At the Universidade Politecnica de Portalegre, up to 6 of these scholarships are awarded each year.

Eligibility

  • University: You are studying at the Universidade Politecnica de Portalegre, a public university in Portalegre, Portugal.
  • Degree: You are enrolled on a ‘Licenciatura’ (Bachelor’s) degree programme, a ‘Mestrado’ (Master’s) degree programme or a ‘CTeSP’ (short, vocationally-oriented technical higher education course).
  • Grades: Last academic year, you passed all your subjects and achieved an overall average of at least 16 out of 20.
  • Field of study: Open to all subjects.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
  • Income: No proof of financial need is required. Only your grades count.

How to apply

There is no application form. The university compiles a ranking of students based on their results and subsequently publishes a provisional and a final list of successful applicants. The DGES deadline is 2 October 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

Each year, the university awards a maximum of 6 merit-based scholarships. The places are allocated to the individual faculties in proportion to the number of students enrolled.
