Erasmus+ mobility grants at Universidade Aberta

You get a monthly grant of around 500 EUR to study or do an internship abroad at a partner university or company in Europe. The grant helps cover travel, accommodation and daily costs. You also pay no tuition fees at the host university. The exact amount is set by the European Commission and the Portuguese Erasmus+ National Agency. It depends on the cost of living in your destination and the distance you travel. A study stay lasts 2 to 12 months (short visits of 5 to 30 days are also possible). An internship can last up to 12 months, including up to 12 months after you graduate. The programme is run by Universidade Aberta (UAb), Portugal's public open and distance university, through its International Relations Office.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled at the Universidade Aberta (UAb).
• Degree level: You are currently studying for a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree. Graduates may also apply for an internship within 12 months of completing their degree.
• Study progress: If you are a Bachelor’s student, you will have earned at least 60 ECTS credits (which is roughly equivalent to one full academic year).
• Fees: Your tuition fees at the UAb have been paid in full.
• Field of study: Any subject, provided that the home university has concluded an Erasmus agreement with the relevant partner university that covers that subject.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• Disability: If you have a physical, mental or health-related disability, you can apply for additional financial support through the Portuguese Erasmus+ National Agency.

How to apply

Check UAb's list of Erasmus partner agreements for one that covers your field. Then fill in the online application form for outgoing students and send it to the International Relations Office. Apply by June for an autumn start or by November for a spring start. Check the host institution's own deadlines too.
