About this scholarship

Higher Education Scholarship for students living in Sines

You will receive 1,200 EUR per academic year if you are studying for a bachelor’s degree (licenciatura) or a master’s degree (mestrado). You will receive 600 EUR per year if you are studying at the Universidade Aberta (Portugal’s open distance-learning university) or completing a higher vocational technical course (CTeSP, a short vocational higher education course). The amount is paid in two instalments by bank transfer and covers one academic year. It is provided by the Sines City Council (Câmara Municipal de Sines) to help local students cover the costs of travelling to university towns located far from Sines.

How to apply

You can submit your application online via the local authority’s service portal, by registered post, or in person at the local authority’s office in Sines. The deadline is at the end of November (on 20 November for the 2026/2027 cycle). Late applications will not be accepted under any circumstances. A panel will rank applicants according to household income; the lower your income, the higher your priority.
