About this scholarship

Erasmus+ mobility grant at the Polytechnic University of Coimbra

You get a monthly grant of around 500 EUR towards travel and living costs while you study or do an internship in another European country. The stay can last up to 12 months. The exact amount depends on how expensive your destination country is; countries fall into one of three price bands. The grant is a contribution, not a full scholarship. On a study placement you also pay no tuition fees at the host university. If you already get another grant or student loan at home, you keep it while abroad. The money is paid by the Polytechnic University of Coimbra through the EU's Erasmus+ programme.

Who can apply

  • Your university: You are studying at the Polytechnic University of Coimbra (Universidade Politécnica de Coimbra, formerly IPC) in Portugal.
  • Study level and timing: To be eligible for a place on a degree programme, you must be in at least the second year of a Bachelor’s degree programme or a short technical degree programme (CTeSP), or be a Master’s student. You can apply for an internship from your first year of study onwards, and you can continue to apply for up to one year after graduating.
  • Where you go: You are studying or undertaking an internship in an EU country, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, North Macedonia or Turkey. You must not be in Portugal, and the United Kingdom is not included.
  • Field of study: All subjects are eligible.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are eligible to apply, provided they are enrolled at the Polytechnic University of Coimbra.
  • Language: You do not need to be fluent in the host country’s language. A basic knowledge of English (roughly at level B1) is recommended so that you can find your way around.

How to apply

You apply online through the Inforestudante platform, under "Applications / Outgoing Mobility". You get a notification there when the application window opens. Your school then ranks applicants on grades, financial situation, motivation and English level, and publishes the list of who was selected.
