About this scholarship

What the scholarship covers

You will receive a means-tested grant from the municipality of Viana do Alentejo to fund your higher education studies. The amount is 10 months of the academic year and will be paid in two instalments: 60% in December and 40% during the Easter holidays. You may use it to cover accommodation, meals, travel costs, study materials and tuition fees. The amount is reviewed annually and is therefore not specified in the regulations. As a guide: in 2023/2024, the local authority distributed 36,800 EUR amongst 46 students, which equates to approximately 800 EUR per person over the 10 months.

Who can apply

  • Where you live: You and your household have been living in the municipality of Viana do Alentejo for at least 2 years.
  • Where you study: You are enrolled at a state university or university of applied sciences in Portugal, including distance-learning programmes.
  • Level of study: You are studying on a Bachelor’s degree programme (Licenciatura), an integrated Master’s programme, a Master’s programme or a short, vocationally-oriented programme (CTeSP).
  • No prior degree: You do not already hold a higher education degree.
  • Grades: You can demonstrate satisfactory academic performance from the previous year.
  • Financial need: You can provide evidence of financial hardship. If there are more applicants than the budget allows for, priority will be given to students with the lowest income per household member.
  • Field of study: Any topic is allowed.
