About this scholarship
What you get
You will receive a monthly grant to cover your higher education costs. This is paid out each year for 10 months, from October to July. The amount depends on your score: with a score of Tier A, you will receive 50% of the IAS per month; with a score of Tier B, you will receive 30%. The IAS (Indexante dos Apoios Sociais) is a reference value set by the Portuguese government each year, so the exact amount in euros depends on the current IAS. You will receive the money by bank transfer in two instalments, in December and March. The grant can be extended for up to 5 years – that is, the standard duration of your studies – provided you pass your exams each year. The scheme is administered by the Castro Verde Municipal Council (Câmara Municipal de Castro Verde), which enables students from the region with limited financial means to access higher education.
Who can apply
- Where you live: You have been registered as a resident of the municipality of Castro Verde for at least 2 years. If you are over 18 years of age, you must also be registered on the local electoral roll.
- Level of study: You are studying a vocationally-oriented technical higher education programme (CTeSP, level 5), a Bachelor’s degree programme (Licenciatura, level 6) or an integrated Master’s degree programme (level 7). Stand-alone Master’s programmes and PhD programmes are not taken into account.
- Field of study: Any topic is allowed.
- University: You are enrolled at a higher education institution recognised by the Portuguese Ministry.
- Financial need: Your household income per person is no more than 1.7 times the IAS.
- Grades: You pass enough ECTS credits to move up to the next year. First-year students are scored on their entry grade.
- No equivalent qualification: You do not yet hold a higher education qualification at the same level as the degree programme you are currently undertaking.
- Institutional grant: You must also apply for a scholarship at your own university, and this application must be complete. If you are awarded both scholarships, you may only keep one of them.
