University of Minho - UM Merit Award

Benefit

As a reward for outstanding academic achievement, you will receive a one-off payment of five times the Portuguese monthly minimum wage. The amount is equal to the statutory minimum wage set at the start of the relevant academic year, multiplied by five. The award is presented to the top-performing students at the University of Minho (Universidade do Minho) in Braga. It is funded by the Portuguese Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation.

Eligibility

• Degree: You are a full-time student on a Bachelor’s degree programme (Licenciatura) at the University of Minho and your enrolment has been completed in accordance with the regulations.
• All units passed: You have passed all the modules on your study plan for this academic year.
• Grades: You have achieved a weighted average of at least 16.0 in these courses on the Portuguese scale ranging from 0 to 20.
• Field of study: Any topic is allowed.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, including international students, provided they meet the same academic criteria.

How to apply

You do not need to apply. The Academic Administration Department (Serviço de Gestão Académica) reviews the documents of all enrolled students and selects the eligible candidates. In the event of a tie, the weighted average marks are compared to the nearest thousandth. The winners are honoured at an annual awards ceremony.
