Azambuja Municipality higher education scholarship

You will receive a one-off payment of 1,000 EUR to fund one academic year at a higher education institution. The money comes from the Azambuja City Council (Câmara Municipal de Azambuja). This funding is used each year to finance 45 grants, for which you can apply through two programmes simultaneously: 35 means-tested grants for students from low-income households and 10 merit-based grants for students with top marks. Each grant is worth 1,000 EUR.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled at a higher education institution or are starting your degree this academic year. Every degree programme and every higher education institution counts.
• Where you live: You have been living in the municipality of Azambuja for at least two years.
• Progress: You passed all your subjects last academic year.
• Need-based track: Your household income per person is no more than 650 euros per month. Under this scheme, 3 grants are reserved for local volunteer firefighters, members of the Portuguese Red Cross and their children.
• Merit track: Your weighted average grade last year was at least 15 out of 20. This track is for students in a Licenciatura (bachelor's degree) or an integrated master's cycle.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

You should submit your application in person at one of the council’s public service centres (Unidades de Atendimento ao Público). Please use the official form for your chosen route and bring the documents listed in the regulations with you. The application period begins in early November and lasts for around four weeks, ending on 28 November. You can apply for both programmes at the same time.
