About this scholarship

Higher Education Scholarship from Estarreja Municipality

You will receive between 75 EUR and 125 EUR per month for up to 10 months per academic year, i.e. a total of approximately 750 to 1,250 euros. The exact amount depends on your household’s per capita income: 125 EUR in the lowest income bracket, 100 EUR in the middle income bracket and 75 EUR in the highest income bracket. If you are studying a ‘Curso Técnico Superior Profissional’ (CTeSP) – a short, vocational higher education programme offered in Estarreja – you will receive half of these amounts (37.50 to 62.50 euros per month). The funding is provided by the Camara Municipal de Estarreja (Estarreja Town Council). You can renew the grant for subsequent years of the same course, provided you continue to meet the eligibility criteria and successfully complete the relevant academic year.

Who can apply

  • Where you live: You have been living in the municipality of Estarreja for more than 2 years.
  • Level of study: You are currently studying or are about to start a Bachelor’s degree (Licenciatura), a Master’s degree (Mestrado) or a CTeSP course offered in Estarreja by an accredited public, private or cooperative higher education institution.
  • Field of study: Any subject is accepted.
  • Age: You are no older than 29.
  • Degree not yet held: You do not yet hold the qualification for which you are applying. If you have a bachelor’s degree, you can still apply for a master’s scholarship.
  • Academic progress: You are starting your first degree course or have successfully completed the past academic year.
  • Financial need: Your household’s monthly per capita income does not exceed the Portuguese minimum wage.

How to apply

Applications are made via the local authority’s online platform at bolsas.cm-estarreja.pt, usually in November. The application deadline is 15 November. The local authority will review your documents and, if necessary, conduct an interview with you or assess your financial situation. A provisional list will then be published, following which a final decision will be made.

How realistic are your chances?

Every year, the local authority awards 20 new scholarships: 10 for Bachelor’s students, 5 for Master’s students and 5 for CTeSP students. Places are initially awarded to applicants with the lowest per capita household income, followed by those with the best grades.
