IPVC Merit Awards

You will receive a one-off cash bonus of 5 times the Portuguese national minimum monthly wage. For the academic year 2024/25, this amounted to 4,100 EUR (5 x 820 EUR). The amount increases each year in line with the minimum wage. The grant is valid for one academic year and is paid in a single instalment. You are also exempt from tuition fees and from the fees for the issue of your degree certificate and academic transcripts. The grant recognises academic excellence at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo (IPVC). It is paid directly by the Portuguese State via the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES).

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo in Portugal.
• Degree level: You are studying for a CTeSP (a two-year higher vocational degree programme), a ‘Licenciatura’ (bachelor’s degree) or a ‘Mestrado’ (master’s degree).
• Grades: You passed all your modules last year and have an overall average of at least 16 out of 20.
• Field of study: Any subject.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Financial need: Not required. Your family income is not a factor.

How to apply

You do not apply yourself. IPVC checks student records, picks those who meet the merit criteria and sends their names to DGES, which pays the award.
