About this scholarship
Higher Education Scholarship for students living in the Azores (PABEEES)
You will receive 2,750 EUR per year, paid in three instalments, for up to 6 years. You may combine this grant with other funding up to a total annual amount of 8,100 EUR. The grant is provided by the Regional Government of the Azores (Governo Regional dos Açores) and supports students from the region who are in financial difficulty.
Who can apply
- Residence: You have been living in the Azores for at least 3 years.
- Financial need: You receive Portuguese child benefit (Abono de Família) in income bracket 1, 2 or 3, which means that your household is classified as a low-income household.
- Degree: You are enrolled on a Bachelor’s degree programme (Licenciatura), an integrated Master’s degree programme or a Master’s degree programme that is required by law for a regulated profession.
- First degree: You have not yet obtained this qualification.
- Study progress: You have earned at least 36 ECTS credits in the past academic year, unless there is a special case provided for by law.
- Field of study: All subjects are open.
- Disability quota: 10% of the scholarships are reserved for students with a disability of at least 60%.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online via the regional platform at apoioaoensinosuperior.azores.gov.pt. The deadline for applications for 2026/2027 is 31 October 2026 at 23:59. You must reapply every year; there is no automatic renewal. Applications are ranked according to household income, starting with the lowest, and scholarships are awarded in that order.
How realistic are your chances?
450 grants are available for 2026/2027. A valid application does not guarantee approval: places will initially be allocated to households with the lowest income until all 450 have been filled.
