University of Aveiro - Social Fund for students with financial problems

Active Social Fund (Fundo Social Ativo)

You will receive additional funding to cover the costs of studying at University of Aveiro. This is designed to help if your family’s income is slightly too high to qualify for the standard government grant, but you are still struggling to cover the costs. The exact amount is not disclosed and is determined by your individual circumstances. It covers standard study costs such as accommodation, meals, travel expenses, study materials and tuition fees. The fund is administered by the social services department of University of Aveiro (Serviços de Ação Social, SAS). It supplements the main state grant but does not replace it.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled on a degree programme at the University of Aveiro.
• Field of study: Any subject.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Financial need: Your household income is just above the income threshold for the standard government grant, or your family is facing exceptional financial difficulties which limit the funds available for your studies.

How to apply

Applications are accepted once a year via the University of Aveiro’s Social Services (Serviços de Ação Social). As there is a fixed application period each year, you should apply as early as possible.
