About this scholarship

Benefit

You will receive a full scholarship for a one-year Master’s programme at the University of the Arts London (UAL) in the UK. This will cover your tuition fees in full. You will also be provided with a single room at the International Students House (ISH) in central London for the duration of your studies, as well as meals at the ISH restaurant. One scholarship is awarded each year. The ISH provides the accommodation and UAL covers the fees. The scholarship is dedicated to Tara Nirula, a student who lived at the ISH from 2004 to 2007 and who passed away far too young in the year 2008.

Eligibility

  • Degree level: You are applying for a full-time Master’s programme at UAL.
  • Subject: You are studying art, design, fashion or a related creative subject at UAL.
  • Where you go: You’re studying at UAL in London.
  • Where you come from: You’re from India.
  • Grades: You have a good Bachelor’s degree with honours or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • Financial need: Without the scholarship, you wouldn’t have been able to complete this Master’s programme.
  • Living arrangements: You’re looking forward to living in a communal, multicultural ISH hall of residence and working up to 10 hours a month for the ISH.

How to apply

You must already have been offered a place on your UAL course before you apply. You should then submit the application form by the deadline in mid-June (13 June). A panel comprising lecturers and representatives from the ISH will assess applications based on academic merit and financial need. You may be invited to an interview, which will take place either in person in London or via video or telephone conference.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one scholarship is awarded each year, and the eligibility criteria are strict: a specific creative Master’s programme at the UAL, a student from India, and a demonstrable financial need. As a result, the number of applicants remains low, but as this is a single, highly prestigious place, competition remains fierce. If you fit the target profile exactly, can present a compelling creative concept and demonstrate a genuine need, your prospects are good. It is advantageous to apply with a firm offer of admission already in hand.
