About this scholarship
Violet Vaughan Morgan Studentship
You will receive a grant to study a one-year Master of Studies (MSt) in English at the University of Oxford. The MSt is a one-year master’s programme involving on-campus study, and the grant covers all 12 months. The exact amount is not disclosed. The scholarship is funded by the Violet Vaughan Morgan Fund, which is administered by the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of Oxford.
Who can apply
- Degree: You are applying for a Master of Science (MSt) programme taught in English at the University of Oxford, or you are already studying there.
- Field of study: Every MSt strand in English counts, for example English 650-1550 or English 1550-1700.
- Fee status: You must be a ‘Home’ student, i.e. you must have UK student status. Students from the EU and from overseas are not eligible to apply.
- College: You can obtain a degree at any of the colleges in Oxford.
How to apply
There is no separate application process. If you apply for an eligible MSt programme taught in English, the faculty will automatically consider your application and put forward candidates for the award. The application deadline for postgraduate students is the end of January.
How realistic are your chances?
The eligibility criteria are narrow: they apply to students with UK fee status who are undertaking a specific one-year Master’s programme taught in English at a single university. This keeps the pool of applicants small. However, Oxford points out that funding for postgraduate students is highly sought-after and limited, and only a small number of scholarships are awarded each year. If you submit a strong application for an eligible MSt programme and meet the January deadline, you stand a good chance.
