This scholarship is worth EUR 1,500 per month for up to 9 months whilst you are undertaking training at one of Spain’s overseas missions for development cooperation or at one of the AECID’s specialist training centres. The placement locations cover around 27 countries in Latin America, Central America, Africa, the Philippines and the Middle East. Each year, between approximately 38 and 43 scholarships are awarded. The scholarship is administered by the AECID, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation, on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This work placement is a practical vocational training programme, not a degree course: you will be learning how development aid projects are managed, how humanitarian aid is coordinated, and how knowledge is shared between partner countries.

Eligibility

• Nationality: Spanish citizens only.
• Degree: You hold a university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent).
• Age: On 31 December of the funding year, you will be 27 years old or younger.
• Field of study: All degree programmes are eligible for funding.
• Languages: You will need an official language certificate for your chosen destination country. A higher language level will earn you more points in the ranking, but there is no set minimum score required for your application.
• Other funding: You are not currently receiving any other state aid from Spain.

How to apply

Apply online via the AECID’s electronic portal; paper applications will not be accepted. The annual application deadline is at the beginning of April (9 April). Applicants will be assessed using a points-based system that takes into account academic achievements, language certificates and other criteria specified in the call for applications.
