About this scholarship

Anders Wall scholarships for international studies

As a reward for your entrepreneurial ambition whilst studying economics, you will receive one-off payment of up to about EUR 17,800. The amount depends on your university: students at the Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki will receive 200,000 SEK (approximately 17,800 EUR), whilst students at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga will receive 150,000 SEK (approximately 13,300 EUR). You will also become a member of Wallumni, the network of all former scholarship holders from Finland, Sweden and the Baltic states, which organises regular meetings and joint international study trips. The award is presented by the Swedish Anders Wall Foundation, which has been supporting young talent since 1981.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are enrolled at the Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki or at the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga.
  • Degree level: All enrolled Bachelor’s and Master’s students at Hanken are eligible to apply.
  • Field of study: Business Administration and Economics, as both are business schools.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit: You run your own business or are involved in a promising project. That is the most important thing the foundation values.
  • Grades: You get good marks at school.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

You apply directly to your university, not to the foundation. At Hanken, you must complete the online form by 24 October. At SSE Riga, you must submit your application documents, including a 3-minute video pitch, by the deadline set by the university. Each university then conducts its own selection process and nominates one student to the Foundation each year, which then makes the final decision.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one student per university is selected each year, so competition is fierce. However, participation is restricted exclusively to students from these two business schools. If you are already running a business or leading a successful project and can back this up with good grades, you have a real chance. A concrete, well-documented track record of entrepreneurial success counts for far more here than a polished application alone.
