What the Support Grant gives you

You get a one-off payment between EUR 750 and EUR 3,600 to fund a specific academic or artistic project, for example a diploma thesis or an exhibition. It is a single sum per funding round, not a monthly grant. The money must go towards the project itself. It cannot cover living costs, rent, tuition fees or buying hardware, unless you need equipment you cannot rent or borrow. The grant comes from the University of Applied Arts Vienna (dieAngewandte) and is funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Women, Science and Research.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled in a regular degree programme at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Short courses and non-degree programmes do not count.
• Your project: You are working on an academic or artistic project, such as a final thesis or an exhibition.
• Nationality: You are a citizen of Austria, an EEA country or Switzerland, or you are treated as equal under Austrian student aid law.
• Timing: You are still within the standard length of your degree, plus one extra tolerance semester.
• Field of study: All subjects taught at the university can apply.

How to apply

You apply twice a year, once in autumn or winter and once in the summer semester. Send the completed application form and a copy of your registration certificate as a PDF by email to the studies office. If your registration certificate is in another language, add a German or English translation. A committee decides after the deadline and sends results by email. There is no legal right to the grant; awards depend on the available funds and the committee's decision.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is limited to students of one university and depends on a concrete project you can describe and cost out. So the pool of applicants is smaller than for open scholarships. If you clearly meet the requirements and hand in a well-planned project budget, your prospects are solid. Because you can apply twice a year and awards depend on the funds available, a clear, well-evidenced application matters more than a polished pitch.
