Bourse Région Mobilité Internationale Etudiants (BRMIE)

You get 95 EUR per full week abroad, for a stay of 4 to 26 weeks per academic year. If you already receive a French social grant (bourse sur critères sociaux, a needs-based state grant), you get a one-off top-up of 80 to 530 EUR, depending on your grant level. Students with a recognised disability get a further one-off 530 EUR, which can be added to the social top-up. The money comes from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and helps you study or do an internship abroad as part of your higher-education course.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled at a higher-education institution in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes that awards state-recognised diplomas at level 5 or higher (from two years after the baccalaureate onwards). Your institution must already hold a funding quota from the region.
• Level: You are working towards a Licence, Master or equivalent (levels 5 to 7), including a DUETI. You cannot apply as a doctoral student, a BTS student, a salaried civil-servant trainee or a student on a relocated campus.
• Where you go: The stay must be abroad. Overseas French territories, Monaco and Andorra do not count. If you are not French, you cannot use the grant to go to your home country.
• Type of stay: The stay must count towards your degree (ECTS credits or exam rules). It can be an academic exchange or a company internship.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Internship pay: If your internship pays more than the legal social-security ceiling, you cannot apply, unless you hold a social grant or have a disability.
• Combining: You can combine it with other grants, but not with another French regional mobility grant, and not with an Erasmus+ grant if your institution is in the AuRA Erasmus+ consortium.
• Total limit: Across your Licence and Master together, you can receive at most 48 weeks of funding.

How to apply

First contact your institution to prepare your project and application. Then submit the full file through the regional online platform before you leave. Your login details come from your institution. Each institution picks candidates by its own published criteria, such as grades and attendance. There is no fixed yearly deadline, but you must apply before your departure.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is limited to students in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes whose institution holds a regional quota, so the eligible group is small and clearly defined. Your own institution selects candidates within its quota, so your prospects depend on your grades, attendance and the number of places available. If you clearly fit and prepare the file early with your institution, your chances are solid.
