About this scholarship
What the Student Support Fund gives you
You get a non-repayable grant to help with your living costs if you are struggling financially. The University of Brighton pays it, and you never repay it. There is no fixed amount. Your grant is worked out from your financial situation over the whole year. You can receive it as a single lump sum or spread across the terms. If you owe the university money, the grant clears that debt first, and any remainder goes to your bank account. You can apply once in every year of your studies.
Who can apply
- Level: You are an undergraduate or PGCE student, or an apprentice on a Level 4, 5 or 6 course.
- Where you study: You are fully enrolled at the University of Brighton.
- Full or part time: Both can apply.
- Residence: You normally live in the UK and count as a 'Home' student for fees. EEA nationals who receive a maintenance loan also qualify.
- Field of study: Open to all subjects.
- Financial need: You need extra help with living costs and already receive the maximum student loan you are entitled to. You can show evidence of your situation.
How to apply
You apply online through the Student View area of My Brighton, once you are fully enrolled and only once per academic year. For 2025/2026, applications open on 6 October 2025. Final-year and PGCE students must apply by 1 May 2026, and other new and continuing students by 5 June 2026. Some health and medical courses have different deadlines because their academic year runs differently.
How realistic are your chances?
This is a needs-based fund, not a competition for a set number of prizes, so it is not about beating other applicants. If you clearly meet the conditions, above all that you are on the maximum loan and can document real financial hardship, you have a strong case. A standard formula keeps decisions fair, so a well-evidenced application is what matters most.
