About this scholarship
What the Darmasiswa scholarship gives you
During your 10 to 12 months-year degree programme in Indonesia, you will receive a monthly living allowance of about 260 EUR (IDR 4,700,000). In addition, you will receive two one-off payments: a book allowance of approximately 110 EUR (IDR 2,000,000) and a settlement allowance of about 260 EUR (IDR 4,700,000). Also included are your student residence permit, local health insurance in Indonesia, as well as accommodation and local transport during the orientation days in Jakarta. The programme is run and funded by the Indonesian government. You will study a subject on a full-time basis without obtaining a degree. You can choose from Indonesian language (Bahasa Indonesia), traditional dance, gamelan music, batik, painting, sculpture, arts and crafts, as well as, at selected universities, culinary arts, tourism or traditional herbal medicine. You are responsible for the cost of your international flights and your personal expenses.
Who can apply
- Nationality: You are a national of a country other than Indonesia and come from a country that maintains diplomatic relations with Indonesia.
- School leaving: You have completed upper secondary education (equivalent to the Matura, the Abitur or a high school diploma).
- Age: You are between 18 and 32 years old.
- English: You are able to communicate in English. If applicable, please provide evidence of this, such as a TOEFL, TOEIC or IELTS certificate, if you have one.
- Health: You are in good health and can provide a medical certificate in English.
- Your subject: You have a basic knowledge of your chosen field and are very interested in it.
- Not a repeat: You have not yet received a Darmasiswa or KNB scholarship and are not currently studying or working in Indonesia.
How to apply
You apply via the official Darmasiswa portal and upload your documents there, selecting the Indonesian Embassy or Consulate in your home country. The application period takes place each year within a set timeframe (for the 2026/2027 round, this was from 15 May to 15 June 2026). Once you have applied, you will attend an interview and a document review at the embassy; the final selection is then made by a host university.
How realistic are your chances?
The call for applications is open worldwide to anyone who has completed secondary education and is younger than 32; as a result, the pool of applicants is large, and the organiser itself describes the selection process as extremely competitive. Your greatest asset is a clear, genuine interest in a specific subject area, as well as some basic knowledge of it, as the host university selects scholarship holders based on their suitability. A well-prepared personal statement and a video, submitted early in the application period, will help you stand out from the crowd.
