What you get

You will receive a one-off grant of 5,000 CAD (about 2,850 EUR) towards your studies in International Business. The funding comes from Export Development Canada (EDC), the Canadian government’s export credit agency. EDC wants more young people to pursue a career in international trade. EDC now administers the scholarship itself. Previously, the scholarship was administered by the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE).

Who can apply

• Citizenship: You must be a Canadian citizen or hold permanent resident status and have a Canadian Social Insurance Number (SIN), which is used for tax purposes. International students are not eligible to apply.
• Field of study: You study International Business.
• Where and at what level: You are studying for a bachelor’s degree at a Canadian college, university or CEGEP (a type of public higher education institution in Quebec).
• Grades: Your average mark last semester was at least 80%.
• Engagement: You can demonstrate your interest in the international economy through, for example, work, voluntary work, clubs, associations, setting up a business or charitable projects.
• Bonus points: Whilst these criteria are not essential, they do improve your chances: an interest in environmental and social issues, knowledge of English and French (or knowledge of several languages), periods spent abroad for study or work, and any awards you have already received.
• Exclusion: EDC staff and their family members are not eligible to apply.

How to apply

In previous rounds, you applied online via the EDC’s careers portal. A selection panel then chose the winners. The EDC is not accepting applications in 2026.

How realistic are your chances?

In 2025 EDC gave out 20 International Business Scholarships across all of Canada. The number of applications is not published.
