About this scholarship
ESVS Educational Travel Grant
You will be reimbursed for your travel, accommodation and living expenses for a short stay at a hospital or research centre abroad. There is no fixed amount. You should make a realistic estimate of the costs in advance, and payment will be made after your stay, once you have submitted your receipts and a brief report. The grant is provided by the European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS). It enables you to observe a specific surgical technique for a short period or to take part in a research project at a centre renowned for this work. The grant covers only your own expenses; it does not cover travel costs for family members.
Who can apply
- Field: You are working or training in vascular surgery, that is, the surgery of blood vessels.
- Membership: You are an active member of the ESVS, either as a full member or as a trainee (EVST).
- Career stage: You can apply before, during or after your specialist training in vascular surgery.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, and you may attend an institution in another country.
- Recommendation: The head of your local authority will write a letter supporting your application. Without this letter, your application will be rejected.
- Host invitation: The institution you wish to visit will send you a letter of invitation. Without this letter, your application will be rejected.
- Timing: You must commence your stay within one year of the award being made, and not before the results are announced.
How to apply
You must apply online via the ESVS website by 31 October. You will need to complete a form providing details of your career stage, your academic background (presentations, publications, courses), the programme at the host institution and a detailed budget. You must also upload your CV, a letter of recommendation and a letter of invitation. The ESVS Executive Board will then make a decision based on this information.
How realistic are your chances?
This scholarship is aimed at a narrowly defined group. You must already be a member of the ESVS in the field of vascular surgery and, prior to applying, be able to provide proof of a binding invitation from a host hospital as well as the support of your department head. This ensures that the pool of applicants remains small and of a high calibre. If you clearly meet these requirements and can demonstrate relevant experience as well as a well-documented plan, your chances are good.
