What the FLE scholarship covers

You will receive a fully-funded one-month summer French course in France, as well as a 466 EUR allowance for that month. The course takes place for 24 hours per week at CIEL Bretagne in Le Relecq-Kerhuon (in 2025: from 4 to 29 August). Every weekday morning, you’ll have three hours of general French lessons. On four afternoons a week, you will learn study skills such as research, note-taking and summarising. Travel to and from Germany, a room in a student hall of residence, a leisure and excursion programme, and insurance for the entire stay are included in the price. The scholarship is awarded by the Higher Education Office of the Institut Français Germany and the French Embassy, in collaboration with Campus France Germany.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled at a university in Germany.
• Your plan: You are planning to study in France, for example as part of the Erasmus programme or on a bachelor’s, master’s or PhD programme.
• French level: You already speak French at level B1 and would like to reach level B2, which is required for most French degree programmes.
• Field of study: Anyone interested is welcome to apply.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• Priority: With a specific study plan for France, very good grades and a clear motivation for studying there, you’ll have a better chance.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the Institut Français’s online form, in French or German, by 19 May for the August course. You must include a personal statement, a CV, proof of your French language skills (if applicable), copies of your school reports and academic transcripts, a certificate of enrolment from a German university, and evidence of your plans to study in France.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is aimed at a small target group: you must be studying in Germany, already have a command of French at level B1, and have a concrete plan to study in France. As a result, the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you clearly meet these requirements and can demonstrate a concrete plan for studying in France as well as good grades, your chances are good. Make sure you apply well in advance of the deadline in May, as places are limited.
