Fulbright University of Nottingham Award

You will receive full tuition fee waiver (100%) as well as a monthly living allowance for a one-year course at the University of Nottingham in the UK. The scholarship covers either a one-year Master’s programme or the first year of a PhD programme. You will also receive health and accident insurance, invitations to cultural events, membership of national arts and cultural organisations, and access to a global network of former scholarship holders with more than 300,000 members. The amount of the living allowance is reviewed annually; therefore, no fixed amount is published. The scholarship is administered jointly by the US-UK Fulbright Commission and the University of Nottingham.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You must be a US citizen. People with dual nationality (US and UK) may also apply.
• Where you live: You do not currently live in the UK and did not live or study there during the last academic year. However, you are permitted to study abroad as part of your bachelor’s degree.
• Degree: You must hold a bachelor’s degree or have equivalent qualifications or professional experience in a relevant field before taking up your post in the UK.
• Study mode: You are studying full-time on campus. Part-time and distance-learning programmes are not permitted.
• Field of study: Any subject offered at the University of Nottingham’s UK campuses.
• UK experience: You will be given priority if you have not already spent six months or more in the United Kingdom. If this is the case, you must explain what new experiences you would gain whilst there.

How to apply

You must submit two applications: the Fulbright application and a separate application to the University of Nottingham as part of the standard admissions process. The application deadline is 6 October at 5 EST. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed via Zoom by the Fulbright Commission in January. Finalists will receive an offer, subject to their admission to the degree programme.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is highly competitive. Only US citizens studying full-time at a specific UK university are eligible, so the pool of applicants is far smaller than for openly advertised scholarships. If you clearly meet the criteria and have an outstanding academic record, your chances are good. Please note that the final decision rests with the US Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, so even a successful nomination is no guarantee of selection.
