GrisArt School of Photography - GrisArt Scholarships

Benefit: what you get

Grisart, a photography school in Barcelona, awards two scholarships each year that cover the full cost of tuition fees. You pay nothing; the scholarship covers the tuition fees – it is not a cash payment. There are two courses to choose from:

• Technical Itinerary Grant: covers the first year of Grisart’s part-time study programme, for which the tuition fees amount to EUR 6,000.
• Photographic Narrative Grant: includes the ‘Project Creation’ course and the ‘Self-Publishing a Photobook’ course, with course fees totalling EUR 3,785.

The average grant amount for both courses is 4,655 euros. Both courses are taught in Spanish at the Grisart School in the centre of Barcelona. You may only apply for one of the two courses.

Eligibility

• Nationality: Open to all nationalities.
• Age: You are at least 18 years old.
• Language: You speak Spanish fluently – both courses are taught entirely in Spanish.
• Portfolio: You can demonstrate your photographic talent by submitting a portfolio of your work. Both self-taught photographers and those with formal training are welcome to apply.
• Field: Photography only; this is not a general art prize.

How to apply

Please send a single ZIP file via WeTransfer to beca@grisart.com, containing your portfolio (15–35 images), a covering letter, a CV and the completed application form. The application deadline is 28 April. Eight finalists will be invited to an interview (in person or online); the results will be announced shortly afterwards on the Grisart website.

How realistic are your chances?

Only two scholarships are awarded per call for applications, so competition is fierce. However, the eligibility criteria are very strict: applicants must be studying in Barcelona and speak Spanish fluently, which significantly narrows down the pool of applicants. A compelling, coherent portfolio and a clearly written personal statement are the decisive factors. If these are well prepared, a suitable applicant stands a real chance.
