IET Future Talent Awards

You get about EUR 1,750 per year (£1,500), paid each January, to help fund an engineering degree or apprenticeship in the UK. The award comes in two versions. The Launch Scholarship pays for up to four years and is aimed at students who have faced financial or personal difficulties. The Boost Scholarship pays for up to two years and is aimed at high-achieving students near the end of their course. You also get free IET student membership during your studies, support for your professional development, and an event where you meet other scholars and the donor funding your award. The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), the UK professional body for engineers, runs the programme with money from company and charity donors.

Who can apply

• Residence: You have lived in the UK for at least three years when you apply. International students cannot apply.
• Course: Your degree or apprenticeship is on the IET's official list of approved engineering programmes (IET-accredited).
• Level: You study a BEng, MEng or an apprenticeship. If you only do an MSc master's, you cannot apply.
• Study mode: Full-time and part-time both count.
• Age: No age limit.
• Launch route: You can be in any year, or about to enrol, but you must not graduate in 2026. You apply because you have overcome financial or personal challenges and are keen on engineering.
• Boost route: You are in the final year of a BEng or the last two years of an MEng, and you scored 70% or above at the end of your 2nd or 3rd year. You need a reference from a tutor.

How to apply

You apply online through the IET awards platform by 11 September 2026. You can only apply for one of the two scholarships. You hear the result after the deadline, and the first payment lands in January 2027.

How realistic are your chances?

Both awards are competitive, but the eligibility is narrow. You must be a long-term UK resident on an IET-accredited engineering course, which rules out many applicants from the start. If you clearly fit one route, either by showing real personal or financial hurdles for Launch, or a 70%-plus record for Boost, your prospects are solid. Applying well before the September deadline gives you time to sort the accreditation check and, for Boost, the tutor reference.
