About this scholarship
Individual Performance Sport Scholarships (Ulster University)
You get up to about 5,150 EUR per year (up to £4,500) as a top athlete at Ulster University in Northern Ireland. The exact amount depends on your tier and the support package built around you. The money can cover tuition fees, accommodation and sporting costs such as competition travel, kit and training. On top of the cash you get coaching and athlete support, strength and conditioning training, and academic flexibility around your fixtures. You also get lifestyle and performance-skills training, branded Team UU kit, mentoring (a personal adviser who guides your progress) and access to the university's training facilities. UU Sport and the university's alumni office run the programme together. There are two levels: a High-Performance Sport Scholarship for senior international athletes, and a Performance Sport Scholarship for athletes competing at county, provincial or national level.
Who can apply
- University: You are enrolled at Ulster University as an undergraduate or postgraduate student.
- Study mode: You can study full time or part time.
- Campus: You study at the Belfast, Coleraine or Derry~Londonderry campus.
- Sporting level (High-Performance tier): You compete at senior international level and your sport's national governing body recognises you through a high-performance pathway.
- Sporting level (Performance tier): You have senior representative honours at county, provincial or national level and you are part of your governing body's talent or performance development programme.
- Eligible sports: Your sport is not one of Ulster's Performance Team sports (Men's Basketball, Men's and Ladies Gaelic Football, Golf, Women's Hockey, Men's and Women's Soccer). Those team sports have a separate scholarship system.
- Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
- Field of study: Open to all subjects.
How to apply
You apply through the online form linked from the scholarship page. Applications open in early October and the deadline is 8 October 2025 at 23:59. Selection is based on your sporting achievements, your future potential and your academic commitment.
How realistic are your chances?
This award targets a narrow group: only Ulster students who already compete at county, provincial, national or international level in an eligible individual sport. That keeps the applicant pool small. If you can clearly document your competitive honours and your governing-body recognition, and you apply before the October deadline, your prospects are good. Athletes in the excluded team sports should look to Ulster's separate scheme instead.
