K+ Bursary at King's College London

You get a one-off 1,000 GBP (about 1,150 EUR), paid in your first year at King's College London (KCL). You do not apply for it separately. It is an automatic bonus for students who finish the two-year K+ programme and then choose to study at King's. K+ graduates also get a two-grade reduced entry offer for most KCL courses, so your required A-level grades drop by two. You are also enrolled automatically in the King's+ support programme once you start.

Who can apply

There is no separate bursary application. You qualify by completing K+, King's programme for school students from lower-income backgrounds. To join K+ you must meet all of these when you apply:

• School year: You are currently in Year 12 (sixth form or college).
• Where you live or study: You live or attend school in Greater London or one of KCL's target regions.
• School type: You attend a non-selective state school, meaning a state school that does not pick pupils by exam or ability.
• GCSE grades: You have 8 GCSEs at grades 4 to 9, including English and Maths, with at least 5 of them at grades 6 to 9.
• First in family: Neither of your parents or guardians has finished a UK university degree. Exceptions apply if a parent is studying their first degree now, finished it in the last 10 years, or got their degree abroad.
• Priority groups: The grade requirements can be waived if you are care-experienced, estranged from your family, a refugee or asylum seeker, of Gypsy, Roma or Traveller heritage, or homeless.
• Then study at King's: After finishing K+, you enrol at KCL. That is what triggers the 1,000 GBP.

How to apply

You apply online for one K+ subject pathway. You can submit only one application, so choose your pathway carefully. For the Summer 2026 pathways, applications close on Sunday 24 May at 11:59pm. Spring pathways reopen in late 2026 for the following year.

How realistic are your chances?

Getting onto K+ is competitive: over 500 places are filled each year from thousands of Year 12 applicants in and around London. But once you complete the programme and enrol at King's, the 1,000 GBP and the two-grade reduced offer are automatic, not a second contest. If you clearly meet the school-year, region, state-school and first-generation criteria, apply on time and follow through, your prospects are solid.
