L'Oreal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Rising Talent Grants

What you get

You get a one-time prize of 15,000 EUR. On top of the money, you get international recognition and leadership training to help you build a network. Each year, the Fondation L'Oréal and UNESCO give this award to 15 young women researchers. It is a top-up prize added to your existing L'Oréal-UNESCO award, not a monthly grant.

Who can apply

• Already a Young Talent: You have already won a national or regional L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Young Talents award. You cannot apply directly for this international prize.
• Gender: Only women can apply.
• Career stage: You are in the early stages of your scientific career.
• Research: You have started or are currently doing research.
• Field: You work in life sciences, physical sciences, mathematics or computer science.
• Nationality: You can come from any of the 100-plus countries where the Young Talents programme runs.

How to apply

You do not apply directly. Local juries first pick the national and regional Young Talents. Only those winners are then invited to apply. An international committee then chooses the 15 International Rising Talents from more than 250 nominees.

How realistic are your chances?

Only 15 places are given each year, chosen from over 250 women who have already won a national or regional Young Talents award. So the competition is strong. You cannot enter on your own: your route runs entirely through the Young Talents programme in your country. If you are already a Young Talents winner with standout research, you have a genuine shot, but it stays highly selective.
