About this scholarship

What the Northumbria International Scholarship gives you

You get a discount on your tuition fees at Northumbria University Newcastle, worth roughly 3,400 to 11,600 EUR (£3,000 to £10,000). It is not cash you receive, but a reduction of the fees you owe. How much you get depends only on your home country (your domicile) and your study level. For a full undergraduate degree, the discount is largest in the first year and then £2,000 in each following year, up to a set total. Examples for 2026/27 entry:

  • Nigeria, undergraduate: £6,000 in year one, then £2,000 per year, up to £10,000 (about 11,600 EUR).
  • Nigeria, master's: £6,000 (about 7,000 EUR), one-off for the course.
  • South Asia (Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka), undergraduate: £4,000 in year one, then £2,000 per year, up to £8,000 (about 9,300 EUR).
  • South Asia, master's: £3,000 (about 3,400 EUR), one-off.
  • Other listed countries (for example Malaysia, Vietnam, USA, Turkey, Egypt, Kenya, Singapore, Hong Kong), undergraduate: £3,000 in year one, then £2,000 per year, up to £7,000 (about 8,100 EUR).

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are enrolled full time at Northumbria's Newcastle upon Tyne campus. The London campus does not count.
  • Level: You study a full-time undergraduate degree or a taught master's.
  • Fee status: You are classed as an "Overseas" fee-paying student. This depends on where you live and your immigration status, not just your passport.
  • Home country: You live in one of the covered countries: Nigeria, a South Asian country, or one of the other listed countries.
  • Funding: You pay your own fees. You cannot apply if a government or employer sponsors you.
  • Course: Your course is not on the excluded list. The exclusions are mainly some health, nursing, midwifery, social work and professional law programmes.

How to apply

There is no separate application. The discount is added automatically once you are admitted and enrol on an eligible course. So you only need to apply for your place: undergraduates through UCAS, master's students directly to the university. Deferring your place or switching to a non-eligible course cancels the discount. You also cannot combine it with other Northumbria scholarships.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competitive award. Everyone who fits the criteria gets it, with no grades or essays judged against other applicants. If you live in a listed country, pay your own fees and enrol on an eligible full-time course at the Newcastle campus, you get the discount automatically. The only things that rule you out are falling outside the country list, the fee status or the course rules.
