About this scholarship

What the NVIDIA Graduate Fellowship gives you

You will receive up to about 55,000 EUR (60,000 USD) for one academic year (9 months) to fund your PhD research. The funding covers your stipend (living costs), tuition fees and compulsory charges. The exact amount will depend on your actual costs. Payment will be made to your university, not directly to you. You will also gain access to NVIDIA’s products, technologies and the company’s research experts. The programme is run by the chip manufacturer NVIDIA and supports doctoral research in the field of accelerated computing, particularly in the areas of artificial intelligence, deep neural networks, natural language processing, robotics and autonomous vehicles.

Who can apply

  • Degree level: You are a PhD student and, at the time of your application, have completed at least the first year of your PhD.
  • Field of study: You are studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Architecture, Electrical Engineering or a related subject. Your research is related to NVIDIA’s core areas, such as AI, robotics or GPU design.
  • Active research: You are carrying out research for your PhD thesis.
  • Enrolment during the award: You will remain a full-time, active PhD student throughout the funding year; therefore, you should not complete your studies before mid-2027.
  • Summer internship: Before the scholarship year begins, you will first undertake a paid in-person internship during the summer (3 to 4 months) at an NVIDIA office in the USA, Canada, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Israel or Taiwan.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, including international students. There is no age limit.
  • University: You can study at any university in the world.
  • Exclusions: Full-time employees of NVIDIA and close family members of current NVIDIA employees are not eligible to apply.

How to apply

Apply online via the NVIDIA application portal by 15 September. To do so, submit a brief research proposal, your CV and 2 to 3 letters of recommendation, at least one of which must be from your supervisor. A panel chaired by NVIDIA’s Chief Scientist will assess your academic achievements, the quality of your research work and its relevance to NVIDIA. Successful candidates will be notified by email at the end of November.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a prestigious award, presented annually to only around ten recipients, so competition is very fierce. Recipients in recent years have come from top universities and have generally been able to demonstrate outstanding publications at leading conferences. If your PhD thesis makes a significant contribution to NVIDIA’s core areas and you can point to specific published results, you have a real chance. A convincing track record is essentially a prerequisite here.
