Government of Thailand - One District One Scholarship (ODOS)

Benefit: what you get

The One District One Scholarship (ODOS) is a Thai government programme that funds high-achieving students to study for a degree at a university abroad. At least one scholarship is available per district across all 878 Thai districts and all 50 Bangkok sub-districts - roughly 928 places in total for the current round. The exact monthly amount for 2025 has not yet been published; the programme's total budget is 10 billion baht (approximately EUR 265 million). The programme is coordinated by the Equitable Education Fund and the Office of the Civil Service Commission.

A separate six-week overseas summer camp was added in 2025 to prepare Grade 10 students for future international study.

After graduating, scholars must return to Thailand and work - in the public or private sector - for at least as long as they held the scholarship.

Eligibility

• Nationality: Thai nationals only.
• Grades: Strong academic results; selection is based on academic performance.
• Field of study: STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) are the priority. Other fields can be proposed but must match areas where Thailand needs skilled workers.
• Category A (half the scholarships): Your combined family income is below 200,000 baht per year (roughly EUR 5,000). Recipients in this category must study in a country where English is not an official language.
• Category B (other half): Open to any income level, provided the chosen field aligns with Thailand's skills needs - primarily STEM.
• Summer camp (separate track): Open to Grade 10 students (Matthayom 4, roughly age 15-16) up to 19 years old, from any of the 928 districts including Bangkok.

How to apply

For the 2025 summer camp, applications ran from 24 March to 16 May 2025 via the Thai government's Tang Rat app. Full application details for the 2025 higher education scholarships had not been published at the time of writing.

How realistic are your chances?

Competition is local, not national - you compete only against students from your own district, a far smaller pool than a nationwide contest. If you have strong grades and, for Category A, can document low family income, your chances within your district are reasonable. The STEM focus narrows the field further, so students with a clear academic record in those subjects are well placed.
