About this scholarship

Saïd Foundation scholarship

You will receive a full scholarship for a one-year Master’s degree programme in the United Kingdom. This covers your tuition fees, living costs for the entire duration of your studies, a settlement allowance, visa fees and health insurance surcharge, as well as a return economy-class flight. Each year, the Saïd Foundation awards between approximately 20 and 30 new scholarships to people from Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine. For places at Oxford or Cambridge, as well as for joint scholarships with the Chevening programme, the funding is allocated differently. For these joint scholarships, Saïd covers your tuition fees and Chevening covers your living costs and flights.

Who can apply

  • Nationality: You hold Syrian, Jordanian, Lebanese or Palestinian nationality. You may hold a second nationality provided you can prove that you hold one of these four.
  • Where you live: You usually live in one of these four countries. Syrians living elsewhere may also apply, as may Palestinians living in Israel.
  • Degree: You hold a first degree equivalent to at least a British 2:1 (Upper Second Class, i.e. very good results in the upper range), or you are in your final year of study.
  • Course: You have applied for a one-year Master’s programme at one of the Foundation’s partner universities in the UK. The subject area is irrelevant, but you must explain how this will contribute to the development of your home country.
  • Experience: You have professional or voluntary experience in your field. There is no minimum number of years required.
  • Plans: You demonstrate leadership potential and have a clear career plan for your home country or region.
  • English: You meet the language requirements, for example with an IELTS Academic 6.0 overall score and 6.0 in each component. The certificate must have been issued on or after 1 September 2025 and must be submitted along with your application.
  • Age: No age limit.

How to apply

You can apply online via the Foundation’s portal. For 2027/28, the application period runs from 1 September to 30 October 2026. If you are shortlisted, interviews will take place in March 2027, and the final decisions will be made by the beginning of June 2027.

How realistic are your chances?

As only applicants from Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine are eligible to apply, the pool of applicants is smaller than for open scholarships for the United Kingdom. However, with only 20 to 30 places available and full funding provided, the selection process is nevertheless highly competitive. Good grades alone are not enough. What sets applicants apart is a clear plan for how they intend to use their degree in their home country, genuine leadership potential and relevant experience, with priority given to those who have not previously studied abroad.
