About this scholarship

What you get

You get a monthly living allowance to do a Master's or PhD abroad, plus a yearly health-insurance contribution and, in most versions, help with tuition fees. The amount depends on where you study:

  • Europe: 1,240 EUR per month (1,512 EUR if you have dependants such as a spouse or children).
  • UK: about 1,030 GBP per month.
  • Rest of the world: about 1,250 USD per month.

On top of that you get a health-insurance grant of up to 660 EUR per year in Europe (more with dependants). Tuition help in Europe is up to 3,500 EUR per year for a Master's or 9,000 EUR per year for a PhD. Funding runs up to 24 months for a Master's, up to 48 months for a PhD, and up to 60 months for a direct PhD. The grant comes from SECIHTI, the Mexican government's science and humanities agency, and continues the former CONACyT scholarships under a new name. There are also joint versions with the DAAD (Master's in Germany) and COMECYT (for residents of the State of Mexico) that add extra support.

Who can apply

  • Nationality: You are a Mexican citizen. There is no age limit and no gender or religion restriction.
  • Degree: You are admitted to, or already enrolled in, a Master's or PhD programme abroad that you attend in person.
  • Where you go: Your programme is outside Mexico and taught in person, not online.
  • Field of study: Your subject is one of the 2026 priority areas: physics, maths and earth sciences; biology and chemistry; medicine and health; behavioural sciences and education; humanities; social sciences; agriculture and ecosystems; or engineering.
  • No double funding: You did not already earn this degree with SECIHTI funding, and you do not hold an equivalent government scholarship at the same time.
  • Clean record: You have no unresolved breach of an earlier SECIHTI scholarship.

How to apply

First create or update your researcher profile (CVU) on the Rizoma platform. Then submit your application on the Apeiron platform and sign it electronically with your Mexican CURP. For the 2026 round, applications ran from 23 March to 22 May 2026, results came out on 7 August 2026, and studies start from September 2026. A written review committee decides. There is no interview.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a national programme open to all Mexican citizens across many fields, so the applicant pool is large. Your prospects hinge on how well your programme and subject fit the listed priority areas. The committee also weighs how convincingly you show you will bring your knowledge back to Mexico. A strong, in-priority application with a clear admission letter stands out. Submit a complete file early to avoid problems in the correction period.
