About this scholarship

Sverker Åström Foundation fellowship

A scholarship is a funded stay for the purpose of studying or gaining experience. You will receive about 4,500 EUR (50,000 SEK) for a three-month stay in Sweden. The money will be paid out in instalments during your stay and covers rent, insurance and living costs. If you need it, please ask in good time for a small advance to cover travel expenses. The Stockholm-based foundation is funded from the estate of the Swedish Ambassador, Sverker Åström. It supports young Russians in gaining knowledge, experience and contacts in Sweden by bringing them into contact with Swedish authorities, universities, organisations, companies and individuals in their field of specialisation.

Who can apply

  • Nationality: You are a citizen of the Russian Federation.
  • Where you live: You currently live outside Russia. Applicants living in Russia will not be considered.
  • Age: You are between 20 and 35 years old.
  • Degree: You have an academic qualification or are about to graduate.
  • Field of study: All disciplines are welcome, for example political science, law, economics, public administration or art and culture.
  • Bank account: You have a bank account outside Russia. Under Swedish law, transfers to Russian accounts are not permitted.
  • Not for: Researchers who are already in Sweden or whose research focuses specifically on Swedish topics.

How to apply

Please submit your application in English as a single PDF file by 15 November 2025 via email to the Foundation to apply for a stay in 2026. Please include a personal statement (max. 200 words), a one-page plan for your studies, research or work placement, and a CV of up to two pages including references. You will receive a response by 15 January at the latest.

How realistic are your chances?

The pool of eligible applicants is small. You must be a Russian citizen aged between 20 and 35, live outside Russia, hold an academic qualification and have a foreign bank account. This means that the pool of applicants remains small, and the foundation supports several scholarship holders each year. If you clearly meet these requirements and submit a detailed plan for your three-month stay in Sweden, your chances are good.
