About this scholarship
Thomas Heinrich Scholarship
For a semester of study abroad, you will receive a one-off payment of up to 4,500 EUR. The money will help you cover your travel, accommodation and tuition fees whilst you are abroad. One student receives this grant every year. It is funded by the Heinrich family in conjunction with the ‘Macromedia Community’ support association, in memory of Thomas Heinrich, a Macromedia student who passed away during his exchange stay in Dublin in 2012. In return, scholarship holders act as ambassadors between Macromedia and the partner university abroad.
Who can apply
- University: You are enrolled as a Bachelor’s student at Macromedia University of Applied Sciences in Germany.
- Where you go: You’re planning to spend a semester at one of Macromedia’s partner universities around the world (for example, in Sydney, London, Tallinn or Beijing).
- Field of study: All degree programmes and all campuses are eligible to apply.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
- Grades: Your average mark is at least 2.5.
- English: You have a TOEFL score of at least 79 points or equivalent proof of your English language proficiency.
- Engagement: You are actively involved in social work or voluntary work and can provide evidence of this.
- Ambassador role: You’re ready to share your experiences of your time abroad, post regular updates about it on an Instagram account, and help with the selection process for next year.
How to apply
Applications should be submitted by email to the Macromedia Community Office. Please send the application form, a personal statement in English, a CV, a letter of recommendation from a professor, evidence of your involvement in community work, and your TOEFL results. The application deadline is 15 April. A selection panel comprising representatives of the Heinrich family, the university and a student representative will make a decision in mid-May.
How realistic are your chances?
This award is very narrowly defined: only Macromedia Bachelor’s students who are planning to spend a semester at a partner university are eligible to apply, and only one person is selected each year. This keeps the pool of applicants small, but as only one place is awarded annually, competition is fierce. If you clearly meet the requirements in terms of grades and English language proficiency and can demonstrate genuine social commitment, a compelling personal statement about your chosen partner university is what will set you apart from the rest.
