UCL Undergraduate Bursary

What you get

You get a yearly cash grant of about EUR 1,150 to EUR 3,450 (GBP 1,000 to GBP 3,000) for the full length of your undergraduate degree at University College London (UCL). The exact amount depends on your household income: the lower your family's income, the more you get. You do not pay it back. It runs for every year of your programme, as long as you keep meeting the income limit, and it is paid in three instalments straight to your bank account. You can also borrow a laptop for the whole time you study. This is UCL's main support scheme for undergraduates.

Who can apply

• Level: You study an undergraduate (bachelor's) degree at UCL. Any subject counts.
• Fee status: You pay the lower UK-resident tuition rate, not the international rate (known as "home fee status").
• Residence: You have lived in the UK for at least 3 years in a row before your course starts.
• Household income: Your family's yearly household income is EUR 49,300 (GBP 42,875) or less.
• Part-time study: You qualify if you study at least 25% of a full-time load. You then get a proportional share of the grant.
• New or current: Both new applicants and students already at UCL can receive it.

How to apply

There is no separate application. Once you have applied for an undergraduate place at UCL, apply for student finance through your regional funding authority (for example Student Finance England) and agree to share your household income data. UCL then checks your eligibility automatically. If you do not want to take out a loan, you can still ask for a household income assessment so you are considered.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competition. UCL sets no limit on the number of grants, so every eligible student receives one. If you study at UCL, hold home fee status, and your household income is at or below the limit, you are in. Just complete your student finance application on time and agree to share your income data, otherwise the automatic check cannot run.
