What the Vergottis Scholarship gives you

You will receive a scholarship of about 9,200 EUR per year (on average around 8,000 GBP, up to a maximum of 20,000 GBP) for postgraduate study at University of Cambridge in the UK. This will help to cover your tuition fees and living costs. As this is not a full scholarship, you will generally need additional funding. The funds are provided by the George and Marie Vergottis Foundation. The Cambridge Trust selects the scholarship recipients and administers the scholarships.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a Greek citizen. That is the key requirement.
• Degree level: You are starting a PhD or a Master’s degree (MPhil) at Cambridge. The Trust does not fund courses at the same level or a lower level than the qualification you have already obtained.
• Field of study: All degree programmes offered at Cambridge, with the exception of premium programmes such as the MBA and the MFin.
• Grades: You have an excellent academic record.
• Financial need: With many funding schemes, you also have to prove that you need financial support.

How to apply

First, apply for admission to Cambridge via the university’s applicant portal. In the ‘Funding’ section of the same application, tick the box to indicate that you wish to apply for funding from the Cambridge Trust and provide your income details. Submit your application before the funding deadline for your degree programme. This deadline is set individually for each degree programme and ends earlier than the general admissions deadline. The selection process runs from March to July; only successful applicants will be notified.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very narrowly targeted: only Greek nationals who are going to Cambridge to undertake a PhD or Master’s degree may apply; consequently, the pool of applicants is significantly smaller than for open scholarships. If you have the required grades for a place at Cambridge and can demonstrate financial need, your chances are good. As this is a partial scholarship, you should make provision for additional funding and note the programme-specific application deadline, which is quite early.
