About this scholarship
The De Geers Fund Travel Grant
You will receive a travel grant to fund a study trip, professional development or research activity abroad relating to iron and steel production. The grant is provided by Jernkontoret, the Swedish Association of Steel Manufacturers, which manages the De Geers Fund, established in 1918, to support young engineers working in the field of iron production. There is no fixed amount or fixed duration for the grant. Jernkontoret determines the amount of the grant on a case-by-case basis.
Who can apply
- Who it is for: You are a young engineer, usually a Master’s student specialising in metallurgy (the study of metals and their production).
- What the money is for: You are planning a study trip, a training course or a research stay abroad in the field of iron and steel.
- Your plan: Your project clearly benefits research and development in the iron and steel sector.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
- University: Any institution is accepted.
How to apply
You apply through Jernkontoret's online form. The grant is awarded four times a year, with deadlines on 20 February, 20 April, 20 August and 20 October. Jernkontoret's Council decides at its meetings.
How realistic are your chances?
This scholarship is highly selective. It is aimed exclusively at young engineers working in the iron and steel industry who can demonstrate a specific plan for study, research or travel. As a result, the pool of applicants remains small compared to open scholarships. If your background and your project clearly fit the focus on iron and steel, and you apply within one of the four annual application deadlines, your chances are good.
