What the Vera Sagers Foundation offers

You will receive financial assistance if you are in need. There is no set amount or fixed duration; the foundation assesses each application on a case-by-case basis and determines the amount of the grant according to your circumstances. The Swedish foundation, founded by Vera Sager as 1986, supports people in need, the elderly or those who are ill, assists with the upbringing of children and young people, and promotes Russian cultural life in Sweden.

Who can apply

• Who you are: You are applying as an individual or as an organisation running a cultural or charitable project.
• Russian connection: Applicants who have a connection to Russia through family ties, ancestry or cultural heritage will be given preferential consideration. You must provide evidence of this connection in your application.
• Financial need: As this is for private individuals, the money goes to people in need, so please provide details of your income.
• Field of study: Any subject area is eligible. This is a general social and cultural grant, not a subject-specific scholarship.
• Bank account: You will need a personal account with a Swedish bank so that the money can be transferred to you.

How to apply

You can apply online via the Foundation’s portal to SEB Bank. Please write your application in Swedish and describe in as much detail as possible what you need the money for. There is no application deadline; the Foundation reviews applications on an ongoing basis.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is highly targeted. The foundation gives priority to people with a demonstrable Russian background who find themselves in genuine hardship, which means the pool of suitable applicants remains small. If you fit this profile, can prove your connection to Russia and demonstrate that you are in genuine hardship, your prospects are good. It is important to submit your application in Swedish and to clearly set out your case, as the foundation assesses each case on an individual basis.
