The Reprographics Fund scholarship for authors

You will receive a tax-free grant of 65,000 SEK (about 5,800 EUR) as a one-off payment. The money comes from the Swedish Writers’ Union (Sveriges Författarförbund) via its Reprography Fund. The fund collects the fees paid by schools, colleges and universities for the right to reproduce pages from published books. It passes this money on to the authors and translators whose works may have been reproduced. The exact amount may vary from year to year, depending on how many people submit a claim and how much money the fund has available for distribution.

Who can apply

• What you do: You write or translate fiction, non-fiction, children’s or young adult books, cultural journalism or plays.
• Your work in schools: Your published works may well have been copied in Swedish schools, colleges or universities. The jury assesses the extent to which your work is used in the education sector, not its quality.
• Nationality or residence: You are a Swedish citizen or a foreign national who is permanently resident in Sweden.
• Membership: You do not need to be a member of the Writers’ Association.
• Type of work: Teaching materials, texts written for the purpose of obtaining an academic qualification, and works published in the year of your application will not be considered.
• Waiting period: If you received this grant in 2023, 2024 or 2025, you cannot apply for the 2026 round. You must wait three years.

How to apply

Applications are accepted once a year via the official form. This form is only available during the application period, which runs from early February to early March. The deadline for the 2026 round is 2 March 2026 (the usual dates are from 1 February to 1 March). You should submit the form together with a list of your works using the template provided by the fund. Digital submissions are preferred.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is aimed at a narrowly defined target group: published authors or translators whose works could have been used in the Swedish education system and who have not yet received the grant in the last three years. This keeps the pool of applicants manageable. If you have a solid track record of published works that are widely used in schools and universities, and you are not currently subject to a waiting period, your prospects are good. However, the final amount will depend on how many others apply this year.
