About this scholarship
Foundation Petersen home scholarship
You will receive a one-off payment of 10,000 to 20,000 SEK (about 1,300 EUR) per funding period. The money helps women to complete their vocational training when they are short of funds. A Swedish foundation pays out the amount twice a year. The decisive factor is, above all, financial hardship, not academic grades. Priority is given to women with specific personal or financial circumstances: caring for children or relatives, high costs such as travel expenses or expensive courses, or a career change.
Who can apply
- Gender: You are a woman.
- Age: You are 40 years old or younger.
- Enrolment: You study full time.
- Type of studies: Your training programme is vocational, which means it prepares you for a specific profession and lasts for several years.
- Progress: You have completed at least half of your degree and still have at least 6 months to go.
- School-leaving qualification: You have completed upper secondary school (Gymnasium).
- Where you study: Studies in Sweden count, and so do studies fully abroad. If abroad, you must complete the whole course there, not just an exchange semester, and you need an admission letter from the foreign school.
- Financial need: Without additional funding, you run the risk of being unable to complete your degree. This is the most important selection criterion.
- Field and re-applications: Any field of study is eligible. You may reapply even if you have already received this scholarship.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online via the Foundation’s system. There are two application deadlines each year: from 1 March to 15 April, and from 15 September to 30 October. Please include a brief explanation (max. 500 words) of how you would use the funds, as well as a clear financial plan. All applicants will receive a response in June or December.
How realistic are your chances?
This funding scheme is narrowly defined: it is open only to women aged 40 or younger who are undertaking a vocational training programme lasting several years, have already completed more than half of their training period, and are in genuine financial hardship. As a result, the pool of applicants is smaller than for open scholarships. If you clearly meet these conditions and can provide concrete, well-documented evidence of need – particularly where you have dependants to support or face high study costs – your chances are good.
