About this scholarship

Tessin Society (Marseille Fund) scholarship

You will receive a one-off grant of 30,000 SEK (about 2,700 EUR) to study French in France for at least two months. The money comes from the Marseille Fund, which is administered by the Tessin Society, a Swedish cultural association dedicated to strengthening relations between Sweden and France. Around 10 grants are awarded each year, with payments made in May.

Who can apply

  • University: You are enrolled at a Swedish university or college.
  • Degree stage: You have not yet obtained a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification.
  • What you do abroad: You use the money to study French in France for at least two months. Exchange programmes or Erasmus stays do not count towards this.
  • Field of study: Any subject. What matters is that you study French in France.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are studying at a Swedish higher education institution.
  • Grades: Your academic performance will be taken into account in the selection process.

How to apply

Applications to the Tessin Society are accepted every year between 1 February and 15 March. Selection is based on your academic achievements, and the scholarship recipients are announced in May.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very targeted: applicants must be studying at a Swedish university, not yet hold a bachelor’s degree, and be planning to take French lessons in France for at least two months – and not as part of an exchange programme. This keeps the pool of applicants small. With around 10 scholarships awarded each year, an applicant who meets these criteria and has good grades stands a good chance.
