What the Anders Wall Scholarship covers

You get your full tuition fee waived for an international Bachelor's or Master's programme at Uppsala University in Sweden. The scholarship pays your entire tuition cost for the length of your programme. The Beijer Foundation and Uppsala University finance the award jointly, and it has funded more than 150 students since 2012. Note that it does not cover living costs, so you still need to pay your own rent, food and other expenses. The Swedish Migration Agency also requires proof of these funds for your residence permit.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a citizen of an African country.
• You pay tuition fees: Students from the EU/EEA and Switzerland study for free and cannot apply. You must be an international student who has to pay fees.
• Degree level: You are applying for a Bachelor's or Master's programme at Uppsala University.
• Field of study: Most international programmes qualify. A few are excluded, including the Master's programmes in Environmental Law, Evolutionary Biology (MEME), Turkic Studies and Transformative Game Design.
• First choice: You rank the Uppsala University programme as your first priority on universityadmissions.se, and you meet its entry requirements.
• Grades: Selection is purely on academic merit. You need strong results and genuine interest in the field. Your financial situation does not count.

How to apply

First apply for your chosen programme on universityadmissions.se as your first priority, before the admissions deadline. Save the 8-digit application number you receive. Then submit the separate online scholarship application during its window, including a motivation letter of no more than 350 words. There is no application fee. The 2026 round ran from 16 January to 2 February and is now closed. The next round is expected to open in early 2027.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is highly competitive, with only around 25 holders active at a time. The focus on African citizens who pay tuition fees keeps the pool smaller than fully open awards. Still, selection rests strictly on academic merit, so strong grades and a sharp motivation letter matter most. Getting admitted to your first-choice programme and applying early both help.
